Geneva – 12 September 2013. Between 27 and 29 September, CERN is holding two major events for the general public: the Open Days on 28 and 29 September, preceded by the “Origins2013” evening on 27 September. A large number of visitors is expected for these two events and special measures will be implemented. These public events will be followed by a "Bosons & More” party on the evening of 30 September to celebrate the performance of the LHC. This party, featuring two special concerts, is primarily for CERN personnel and users, but 500 places will also be allocated to members of the public.

Origins2013 Evening
- Date and time: 27 September, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Venue: the Globe of Science and Innovation, CERN, Meyrin
- An event focussing on research into the infinitely large and the infinitesimally small, two converging fields of science that have seen spectacular discoveries over the past year. Guests will have the chance to meet the researchers who participated in the discoveries. The evening’s presentations and discussions will be webcast live from CERN in Geneva, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and the Salaborsa building in Bologna. Participants will include eminent scientists as well as European Space Agency (ESA) astronauts, who will take part remotely from the International Space Station.
- Entrance free, but by reservation only owing to limited seating capacity. Open to people aged 14 and over. Presented in French and English. Full information is available at: www.origins2013.eu
Open Days
- Date and time: 28 and 29 September, from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
- 43 activities across all the CERN sites: visits to laboratories, workshops, accelerators and detectors, demonstrations of CERN’s technologies, research-based lectures and presentations, etc.
- Entrance free for all members of the public; no reservation required. Visits to the underground facilities, which are accessible only to visitors aged 12 years and over, are also free but by reservation only.

Transport and parking during the Open Days:
- Certain roads around CERN’s two main sites will be closed to traffic between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. ; diversions will be in place. The three roads that will be closed are: the Route de Meyrin between the Mandement roundabout in Meyrin and the Porte de France roundabout in Saint-Genis-Pouilly (RD984); the Route de l’Europe between the RD984 and the RD35 opposite CERN’s Prévessin site; the RD35 in front of the Prévessin site between the roundabout at the RD35A intersection and the RD35B intersection.
- Only residents, volunteers and members of the media (see also instructions for the media below) displaying a sticker provided by the Open Day organisers on their vehicles, as well as emergency vehicles and those belonging to people with reduced mobility, will be authorised to use these roads or access the CERN sites.
- No parking will be permitted on the CERN sites, other than for the people mentioned above.
- Visitors coming by car must park in one of the 34 free car parks and travel to the CERN sites using the free shuttle buses. The use of public transport is recommended: Unireso, our partner for the event, is offering each visitor one free return ticket to CERN from anywhere within Zone 10 (“Tout Genève”).

Bosons & More party
- Date and time: 30 September, from 7.50 p.m. to 11 p.m.; doors open at 6.30 p.m.
- Venue: CERN’s Prévessin site
- Special concerts by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande with a 120-strong choir and by the Alan Parsons Live Project.
- Entrance free and open to all CERN’s personnel and users. 500 places will be allocated to members of the general public by lottery. For the chance to win two tickets, go to the “Updates” section of the CERN site (www.cern.ch) from 2 p.m. on 16 September.
