Initially planned for 2020, but postponed due to the health situation, this large-scale exercise aims to increase the interoperability of and communication between the various rescue teams, as well as the knowledge of their respective working methods.

The CERN Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) and the experience CMS, in collaboration with the emergency services in France and Switzerland, is organising a large-scale emergency response exercise, involving SIS Geneva, SDIS01, the French National Gendarmerie, the 144, the Samaritans of Geneva and the Civil Protection service of Geneva. About a hundred people will participate in the training.

So don’t be surprised if you see emergency vehicles or even some smoke around the CMS experiment site LHC-Point 5 throughout Saturday morning. The exercise will last until noon.

These exercises are carried out regularly in order to gain experience and test the operating conditions and efficiency of all fire and emergency equipment, while also reinforcing the safety culture that is already integral to the work of CERN’s personnel.
