Science & Art at school
A programme that invites students to discover science through creativity and artistic expression, by bringing together teachers, scientists from CERN and the local community to work on an educational project throughout the year
Description
The programme has 5 steps:
- Teacher training at CERN: a three-hour training session is offered to participating teachers on a Wednesday afternoon. It takes place between November and January and enables them to find out about the programme and prepare the activities they will carry out with their pupils.
- visits to schools: scientists from CERN visit participating schools to lead a hands-on science workshop with the pupils. Each session lasts around 90 minutes per class and takes place between January and March.
- CERN tour and creative workshops: school groups are welcomed to CERN for a full day comprising a tour and creative workshops. This event takes place in April and May.
- Exhibition and performance at school or in the village: in June, the pupils present their work at their school or in a public venue near their school. The exhibition may run for up to a week.
- Exhibition and performance at CERN: the pupils’ work is also showcased at CERN over a weekend in June.
Thanks to teaching resources specially designed for the programme, teachers can incorporate these activities into their lessons and guide pupils through an interdisciplinary approach.
