La nuit est belle 2026

On the evening of Friday, 09 October 2026, CERN will be participating in the 6th edition of “La nuit est belle !” event. Thanks to this initiative and its various editions, turning off or reducing the intensity of public lighting in the middle of the night has become commonplace.
For this sixth edition, “La nuit est belle !” invites the public to discover the night through the theme of water. Rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands and landscapes shaped by water all serve as starting points for exploring the natural, cultural and sensory riches of the night.
CERN will join this initiative by switching off the lights from Friday, 09 October 2026, from 21h00 onwards, so the participants of the Partage Ta Science event happening in Science Gateway can go home safely, as well as Saturday night, of the Globe, the Science Gateway Portal, Gate E, the roads and car parks on the Meyrin and Prévessin sites, except where lighting is required for safety reasons. At the SPS and LHC surface sites and the BE1 area, except where lighting is required for safety reasons, lights will be switched off until Monday morning.
CERN is committedto continuous improvement of its energy performance.
