CERN will be at the Fête de la science from 2 to 12 October

CERN is organising a wide range of activities across the Pays de Gex as part of the collaborative science programme led by Addictlab

From 2 to 12 October, discover the theme ‘saveurs, savantes’ at the Fête de la Science across France, as well as throughout the Pays de Gex. To mark the occasion, CERN is taking part in the collaborative science trail coordinated and led by Addictlab, offering a range of events and activities.

This collaborative science trail spans the entire Pays de Gex region, involving local authorities, organisations, businesses and researchers. Immersive activities at the CERN Science Gateway

Join us at CERN to explore the Universe. From Tuesday to Sunday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, during the Science Festival (and all year round!), come and discover CERN for free at the Science Portal through guided tours, lab workshops and much more. With hands-on experiments, real scientific artefacts, immersive environments and interactive activities, the Science Gateway exhibitions will bring CERN to life.

Exhibition “From fundamental research to our everyday lives”

Access 24/7 until March 2027

This temporary exhibition on Esplanade des particules, outside CERN Science Gateway, showcases some of the concrete applications of CERN technologies and expertise, most of them resulting from fruitful collaborations with industrial and research partners, particularly from our Member and Associate Member States. You might be surprised by the many ways in which fundamental research is helping our lives.

Exhibition Why? It matters

What direction will particle physics research at CERN take after the LHC? What major scientific questions remain unanswered? What technologies will be needed to take research further? And how do we decide which projects to undertake?

With the exhibition ‘Why? It matters’, CERN invites the public to discover the ideas that are currently shaping the future of particle physics research. From the mysteries of the Universe to technological challenges, from proposed future accelerators to their impacts on society and local area, the exhibition highlights the many dimensions that come into play when imagining CERN’s future.

Partage ta science

The “Share Your Science” event, organised by CERN on 9 October 2026, with the support of the Department of Public Education (Canton of Geneva) and in collaboration with the Académie de Lyon (France), will give you the opportunity to discover secondary school final-year projects covering various scientific fields, presented by pupils from the Pays de Gex and Geneva at the Portail de la science campus at CERN.

Maths, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering? Pupils have a few minutes to share their science!

Divonne-les-Bains (DivonneLab / Maison de la gare) : 3-4 and 10-11 October

As part of the Fête de la Science Upcycling Fashion Week, and in keeping with its in-house upcycling approach, CERN’s Visual Identity and Exhibitions team is offering a series of workshops in collaboration with Sophie Le Mestre and Sara Sandmeier.

On Saturday 3 October, from 10:00 to 11:00 and from 11:00 to 12:00:

Upcycling workshops… what if banners morphed into beautiful, useful objects? – A collaboration between Sophie Le Mestre <dressmaker> x CERN’s Visual Identity and Exhibitions team. Transform raw material into a surprising, irresistible, one-of-a-kind piece. Imagine. Sew. Create a beautiful, useful everyday object. No experience needed.

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, and again on the weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, from 14:00 to 15:00 and from 15:00 to 16:00:

Upcycling workshops… what if cardboard and plastic became precious? – A collaboration between Sara Sandmeier <designer, art director and lecturer at an art and design school> x CERN’s Visual Identity and Exhibitions team. Transform raw material into a surprising, irresistible, one-of-a-kind piece. Cut. Assemble. Add texture. Experiment. No experience needed.
