As people’s ecological awareness and the amount of time they spend in traffic jams increase, the use of sustainable transport continues to grow in Geneva and neighbouring France.
CERN has always been committed to the environment and is proud to participate in and support sustainable transport initiatives: not only involving CERN’s personnel, but also its neighbours.
Three events are scheduled for this spring/summer:
Fête de la Mobilité, Saturday, 28 May, Meyrin. Open to all.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Place des Cinq-Continents will host several information stands and events. The Bicentenary cross-border cycle tour will bring together local residents, associations and authorities from both sides of the border to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of Meyrin into the canton of Geneva and the Swiss Confederation.
This event, organised by the Meyrin communal authorities, will culminate in a prize draw and an apéritif.

Bike to Work, 1 to 30 June, France and Switzerland. Employees.
This year, CERN is once again taking part in the Swiss national “Bike to Work” campaign, which is expected to attract more than 50,000 participants. Throughout June, teams of four colleagues are encouraged to come to work by bike or using another non-motorised form of transport. Last year, CERN had the most participants out of all the organisations in French-speaking Switzerland: 126 teams pedalled some 97,462 km!
You can also take part in your own organisation with your colleagues!

Rhône-Alpes Mobility Challenge, Thursday, 9 June. Employees.
Ring the changes on Thursday, 9 June by using a different means of transport to get to work! CERN, in partnership with the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Gex, has signed up for the 6th Challenge Mobilité Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, the aim of which is to encourage people to use modes of transport other than driving alone to get to work, for example by walking, cycling, car-sharing or using public transport.
“Commute another way!” is an initiative launched by the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes regional authorities and the French environment agency ADEME (Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise de l’énergie française).
You can also take part in your own organisation!
